Xerxes Cup (Carleton High School Debating Tournament)

09/27/2009

The Carleton University Debating Society (CUDS) is pleased to invite you to our 9th annual Xerxes Cup, to be held at Carleton University on November 27 and 28, 2009.  We offer five rounds of Canadian Parliamentary style debate, followed by semi-finals, finals and awards on Saturday evening. We will provide a pool of judges with experience judging in and competing in tournaments sanctioned by the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate (CUSID).

This year we welcome CUDS president Simon Cameron as our chief adjudicator. He was the second-ranking novice debater at the 2008 Yale IV tournament and a finalist at the Seagram Invitational at Laurier University. Our tournament directors are Sarah Smith and Allison Render. Sarah Smith was the volunteer coordinator for Xerxes 2007 and the 2008 North American Championships.

Schools registering before October 15th will be charged $75 per team. Teams registering between October 16th and November 15th will be charged $85 per team. Payment is due in full by November 15th. This includes a minimum of five rounds of debate, dinner on Friday night and breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

To register, send an email to xerxes@carletondebate.org telling us how many teams you would like to register. Payment can be sent to the following address:
