Invitation to the RHHS Debate Tournament

Dear Coaches, Judges and Debaters,

 

The Richmond Hill High School Debate Society invites you to the annual RHHS Debate tournament, scheduled to be held on Saturday November 21^st, 2009. The aim of this event is to provide an enjoyable and educational experience for high school debaters of all levels.

 

Format:

The format of this tournament will be Canadian Parliamentary style. There will be no prepared resolution for this tournament however there will be 3 rounds of impromptu debate. The impromptu resolutions will require general knowledge that the average high school student should possess, and debaters will have time to prepare prior to each round. Semi finals and finals will be open rounds with straight resolutions.

 

Eligibility:

The tournament is open to all high school students regardless of their debate experience.

 

Food: 

Breakfast and lunch on Saturday will be provided. Beverages and snacks will also be made available throughout the tournament. If a debater has any dietary restrictions, please indicate them on the registration form, so we can properly accommodate their needs.

 

Registration: 

This year’s tournament will not be capped; however each school must bring one judge for every 2 teams. Judges should be coaches, former high school debaters, or experienced senior student debaters.

 

The cost of this year’s tournament is $25/person and the registration deadline is Friday November 13^th, 2009. It is important that all teams and schools be punctual as late behavior will have a direct impact on the entire tournament.
